It's Official..

And maybe a bit last minute but...
I will be spending New Year's in Dallas!!!!
I absolutely cannot wait!
Jessica and I will be leaving early Wednesday morning to meet up with some of our friends, and we will come back sometime next weekend!
And who knows, we may both get jobs and never come back....haha wishful thinking!
Happy New Year!

Where Do I Begin?

I really do not even know where to begin..
Life has been busy to say the least. Christmas was amazing but leading up to Christmas, maybe not as glamorous. Over the past two weeks, I have been soo busy working, going to Christmas parties, catching up with friends, interviewing, and trying to get everything together for Christmas. Yes, I will mention that had an interview last week in which went very well; I just don't think that Meridian is the city in which I want to reside for the time being. With that being said, I will continue to look.
Christmas day was amazing, the Florida Vons came to visit this year and we had soo much fun getting to catch up with them! We got together Christmas Eve for lunch and also again for dinner, we spent all of Christmas day together, and we also spent all of yesterday with them also. I spent all of last night curled up with Sophie in my down comforter in front of the fire watching movies and catching up with the whole family. Who could ask for more? We had soo much fun and I really hate that the Florida Vons had to leave today! We had lots of fun with you and cannot wait for you to come back!!
Work was a little different this year. This December was the best December that the store has ever had in its 37 year history, and for that we are very grateful; however, my feelings for the business did change slightly. I love working in retail, and although it is sometimes tough and sometimes not-so-rewarding, I think that I would like a different change of pace for a little while, at least. The few weeks leading up to Christmas were so busy that they were almost not enjoyable, and sometimes working in the retail business will make you hate the holidays before they ever arrive. This year, for some odd reason, I really wanted to experience a Christmas not in the retail business. For the first time in my life, I wanted a Christmas in which I had time to sit around and watch Christmas movies, bake Christmas cookies, and have enough time to make it to every party/friend get-together that I was invited to without getting caught up in all of the hustle and bustle that the holiday seems to bring. December in the Mayer family is always the busiest season of the year; we tell my dad goodbye at Thanksgiving and we don't have much time to spend with each other until after Christmas is all over. We are extremely thankful for such good business, especially in this economy, but for once in my life I would love to experience a normal life during the Christmas season. Maybe next year?
New Year's Eve is coming up on us quickly and I couldn't be more excited to see all of my friends! Until next time..

The Countdown Has Begun!

Only 5 days until Christmas, and I still have presents to buy! Thankfully, the two calendars arrived this week and they could not be more perfect!! After I posted one of the calendars below, I realized that I have it set to private so I am the only one that can view it. Maybe I will change that soon.
I have been extremely busy this week. I have worked everyday and we have been super busy! It seems, however, as though the only way that I can remember to do things is to write them on my hand. My to-do-list is becoming a little lengthy and somehow my to-do-list on paper tends to get thrown away on a daily basis. Needless to say, I know my hands look completely ridiculous by the end of the day. Just the other day I had a brilliant idea to write it on my arm considering I wear long-sleeve shirts and no one would know. What has my life come to? Either I'm getting old or short of memory very early on in life. And with that being said, I really do have a good memory; I just have to make extra sure that everything gets ordered for my customers before Christmas. I wouldn't want to be responsible for the "Christmas that never came" at someone's home Christmas morning.
I did go to a Christmas party in Gainsville, Alabama last night though. A guy that I graduated from high school with has a Christmas party at his riverhouse each year, and this is the first year that I have been able to go considering work usually gets in the way this time of the year. Words cannot describe just how much fun was had at this party. So many of my friends that I graduated with were there, and I had an absolute blast getting to catch up with them! However, this morning was not much fun. I woke up at 8:30 to be able to make it to work. I purposely took my car so that I would be able to leave early this morning and make it in to work on time. Well let's just say I got a little lost, a little being quite an understatement. An hour and a half later, very little battery left in my phone, and no battery left in my GPS, I arrived safe and sound in Meridian. I've never been so happy to see the "Welcome to Mississippi" sign and a little civilization before in my life. The whole hour I was lost in Sumter County, I had no cell phone service, a dead GPS battery, no remote sign of civilization, no road signs, no major highway or intersection, and absolutely NO convenient store (let alone any other kind of store). I was a little worried to say the least. But no worries, I found my way home!
Thank goodness I have tomorrow off. I have zero plans for being productive.

Christmas Season..

Things I love about this time of year:
1-Christmas movies
2-Christmas music
3-Cold weather/snow
4-All of the lights and decorations
Things I do not love about this time of year:
1-That I feel as if I have the flu.
2-I sound like a man.
3-My face is beginning to resemble the goodyear blimp.
4-Wearing cocktail dresses when it is 30 below
I think that this is all for now!

My Life Lately..

I'm beginning to wonder if there is anything that I haven't done lately? Since I have blogged last, I worked all day Monday, taught 4th grade Tuesday, worked Wednesday and all day today, went straight from work to babysit two very precious little boys, and I will be teaching 4th grade again tomorrow. I have had such a wonderful class and am excited to go back.
I am convinced that kids say the darnest things!! One of my students wrote me a note on Tuesday; this is what it said:
"Thank you! Thank you for being a wonderful teacher, you look like you are 15! How old are you?"
If she only knew how old I really was!
Tonight, the little six year old boy that I babysat kept playing with my hair. Well, about halfway through the night he whispered into my ear:
"I want to tell you that I want to kiss you on the lips."
I almost fell out on the floor. My only response to this was, "No, I just don't think that is a very good idea."
The Friday before Thanksgiving, I had a first grade class. They were watching a movie and the television in the classroom was hanging from the corner on the ceiling. One of my students yelled out, "If I have to watch this movie I'm going to get a cricket in my neck."
I can only imagine the stories that you hear if you are a full-time teacher.
I also forgot to add that I am completely through Christmas shopping except to get my sister and my grandmother a little something!!!! What a relief! The calendars had a shipping deadline(December 11) that I had to meet, and I must admit that it feels so good to have all of that out of the way! I stayed up most of the night last night to finish it. Needless to say, I am counting down the days until I can sleep in again! Now onto cleaning..

To Be, or Not to Be..

Have you ever been extraordinarily confused?
And I'm not just talking a little confused, I am talking a "do not know what in the world you are going to do" kind of confused?
Well, welcome to my life! I never once in my life thought I would end up right here in such a state of confusion. I have no earthly idea what I am going to do with my life!
To go to grad school, to not go to grad school...
To get a second degree/and or minor, or not to get a second degree/and or minor...
To get a full-time job or go back to school...
I think you are getting the idea. I'm really confused and maybe I should get YOUR opinion! Yes, this is correct! I don't ask very often but now is your chance to help me out!
If you were to ask me four years ago what I wanted to do with my life, this is what I would tell you:
graduate with a degree in Accounting, get my masters(which takes approximately one year), and apply to law school.
Ha. It's funny how quickly things change. I am now graduated with a degree in Insurance, Risk Management, and Financial Planning in which I currently cannot seem to do much with.
With the school semester currently coming to an end, and me now being jobless for approximately four(almost five) full months, I am beginning to wonder whether or not I should just go back to school while I still have the opportunity.
I have considered waiting the job market out through the end of the month but here is the deal...apparently, within the "real world" all that matters is experience. Hahahaha, everyone seems to say that but my ten years retail sales experience has gotten me absolutely NOWHERE except a job offer from Nordstrom. Insurance sales is considered "outside sales" experience and retail is considered "inside sales." Therefore, making my retail experience of no use.
I guess where I am going with this statement, is it more worthwhile to take an "okay" job and hope that the experience will get you somewhere in the future?
Or should I get a second degree, or a minor, or go to grad school instead? Which is more beneficial?
Where would I go to school? Ole Miss? Alabama? Not Mississippi State?
Would I double major in Marketing or Accounting? I only lack a few classes for an accounting minor, am I stupid not to pursue it? I can surely do more with an accounting degree than an insurance degree..but is it worth spending another year or two in school?
I think you see my dilemma. I have some big decisions to make and not much time to make them.

Did That Really Just Happen?

First things first,

Roll Tide Roll!

I have proudly worn my houndstooth all day! I absolutely cannot wait until the Rose Bowl!

And now on to more important topics,

I found EVERY ONE of my Christmas ornaments that have been missing since the end of November, and you will NEVER guess where I found them.....

They are on my parent's Christmas tree.

They have someone come and decorate our house every year for Christmas, and apparently this year he was uninformed on which decorations were mine, and which were my parents.

Enough said I guess.

But no worries, I undecorated their tree and quickly to my tree they went!!!!

I'm sure my mother was thrilled to hear that her Christmas tree was decorated with Dollar General Christmas ornaments hahahahahaha!!! None-the-less, their tree is beautiful reguardless of where the ornaments originated..

Just glad to have mine fully decorated! Maybe she won't notice anything missing from hers....

It Just Doesn't Get Much Better Than This..

Sweet, sweet Sophie sound asleep

I am currently sitting in the recliner, snuggled up with my down comforter and my sweet, sweet little Sophie while watching the SNOW fall down outside, listening to Christmas music and drinking a little Christmas cheer :) It's been snowing for a few hours now and it is gorgeous!! It has just started to stick, maybe it will stick around for awhile! Sophie and I played in the snow earlier tonight and I think that she really enjoyed it! She is now sound asleep in my lap; she is absolutely PRECIOUS!! Here are a few pics! Enjoy!!

A Little Here, A Little There..

First things first..
I really don't care for this new blog header but I just cannot seem to make one that I really like. I'll keep playing around with it until I can find something that I decently like. Onto bigger and better things..
I have been quite a busy bee since the last time I blogged. I have been on quite a cleaning streak lately(read below) and I have also got quite a bit of Christmas shopping done! Now for those of you who don't know me very well, this is a VERY big deal. I am your absolute best example of a last minute shopper..but not this year! Not to mention, I even ordered Sophie a sweet little Christmas sweater today! I will post pics as soon as it comes in! I bet you didn't hear the latest news in Meridian???? There is a chance for SNOW FLURRIES on Friday night, and it is only November! Hopefully we will get some sort of a winter snow this year! Tonight, my family and I had a "late" Thanksgiving dinner with my dad's aunt and uncle. It was great getting to see them, I haven't seen them in quite some time. I hope that I am in as good of shape as they are when I reach their age. My great aunt is absolutely hilarious, and my great uncle is still just as business smart as he has ever been.
I have quite a few projects that I am currently working on. Last year, I made my mom and dad each a calendar for Christmas. They are both so hard to shop for and I was completely out of ideas. I have a website that I use online, and all that I do is design each page (which takes forever), put together the layout, and have it printed and shipped to my front door. Simple enough I guess. Needless to say, it was such a hit last year that I'm doing it again. So I have spent quite a bit of time on my computer lately trying to put these together (and shhh...it's all a secret!). Hopefully I can finish them sometime this week. Last year, I was late getting them together, rushed them in for Christmas, and they cost waay more than I ever imaged a calendar would! Thank goodness this year I have started early, and I even got an e-mail today stating that I get FREE shipping!!! I know this doesn't mean much to you but when the shipping costs are more than the calendar, it means quite a bit!
Have I completely lost my mind??
Apparently, it has been gone for quite some time now! You wouldn't believe what I have been doing over the past two days..I have been on quite a cleaning streak. Now I haven't been on just any clean streak....
I have literally cleaned baseboards, cabinets and what not, I cleaned my car inside and out, cleaned my room, cleaned my closet, and I even cleaned out all of my drawers...AGAIN!
Yes my friends, this is what unemployment will do to you. Not only did I clean out all of my drawers, closet, cabinets, etc. two months ago when I thought I was moving, but I have cleaned them out a second time over the past few days! I even considered re-painting the baseboards! I think unemployment has most definitely reached a new high. If only Santa could bring me a job..
Now for those of you who know me, I am an extraordinarily clean person, but I'm afraid this has reached a new high. Lauren (my roomie from last year) would have come up with a better nickname than just Merry Maids for me by now if we still lived together..
Until tomorrow.
