Busy, Busy..

Saying that I have been busy lately is quite an understatement. This has been my first "break" of the day, and I'm afraid I've got a busy night ahead of me.
But, I did have a very fun lunch with my favorite meteorologist today!! My friend Kayleigh is from Birmingham, and she took a job about a year ago doing the weather in Monroe, LA. I wish more than anything that she would move back!! She just happened to be in town today, so after our sales meeting this morning I met her for a quick little lunch!! Gosh, I miss my friends!!

Happy Tuesday everyone!! Just four more days until the WEEKEND!!

What A Wild Ride Indeed..

I cannot begin to describe just how much I enjoy reading so many blogs regarding college graduation and future plans. I have so many friends anxiously awaiting graduation within the next few weeks, and so many that don't know where their lives will take them. I was in that very same situation last year, and guess what?!

I'm still sitting in that same situation one full year later! I have news friends: the more you think you know, the more you find out that you really don't know at all! My heart goes out to each and every one of you, b/c I've been through every single emotion that you're going through now! Honestly, I would like to forget the last year of my life. Graduating in May with so many "unknowns" was huge to me. I love to plan. If I could have every minute of every day planned, I would. And I used to try and "plan" my future. Gosh, at one time, I had planned out my life until around the age of 30 or so. Haha. I have to laugh at that one. Because guess what? I fly by the seat of my pants in everything that I do now, and I don't plan anything. I try, really hard to plan things actually. And guess what?! They don't work out. Never have, never will.

And I'm afraid I have news, it doesn't get any better. I love love love Birmingham, I love my job, I love my friends, and I love my family, and lately..that's all that I know. And I'm afraid that's all that I will ever know. I know that He has great plans for my life, and that I have to trust Him daily, b/c every single day is different.

And this my friends, will shock you all: I make appointments daily (on the job of course), and I cannot even describe to you the amount of people that don't keep their appointments. That want to re-schedule(which is totally fine, by the way), or..that just don't show up. It absolutely amazes me on a daily basis. So even with tremendous amounts of planning, sometimes those "scheduled" plans don't work out either. Business or not.

For my life plans: well, I currently have none. I know what I did today, I know that I have an appointment scheduled out of town tomorrow, but I don't know if that appointment will follow through, or if I will be sitting at home again tomorrow. I have quite a fear for the unknown, but I'm learning to embrace it daily. It's hard, and I don't like it..not one bit. But I'm afraid that their isn't enough planning that I can do to prepare for it. Good luck to all of you college graduates! It's a fun and exciting, yet a very scary time for all of you...learn to embrace it!

Rain, Rain Go Away..

Rain, rain go away..I wanted to layout today!!
To get an early morning phone call from a meteorologist during rough weather is a very scary feeling! My dear friend, Kayleigh, works as a meteorologist in Monroe, LA. She called earlier this morning to make sure that I was okay; a tornado ripped through Meridian (outskirts of Meridian) and she was calling to make sure that all was well! How sweet...but scary when you know the weather is bad!! Kayleigh is very good at keeping us all up-to-date, and I surely miss her daily weather reports in the DDD house every morning! If only she would move back to the 'ham!!
Well friends, it's official..I'm running on very little sleep today.
Wow, a lot happens in a week! This time last week, I was out on the town with my very best friends! And this week, well..I'm sitting at home on a Saturday night watching the weather channel!
It has been one disgusting day! Other than leaving to get dinner, I haven't gotten out of the house all day...but I must admit that it has been wonderful! Last night, the weather got pretty rough here..needless to say, I was up almost every hour. And guess what?
The weather is just now starting to get bad here again..thanks Mississippi! On another note, I'm just thankful that it hasn't been as bad as it was in MS!! Poor state, I've felt so bad for all of you Mississippians today!
On another note, James Spann is amazing! I've watched live weather footage from MS all day sitting right here in my home in B'ham! Crazy, huh?!

I dedicate this post to Riley..

For those of you that do not know, I'm TERRIFIED of bad weather.
Always have been, always will be.
I have quite a few stories behind this, but I'm afraid it's 8:05 p.m. on a Friday night, and the storms are just now rolling in. For lack of better terms, I'm terrified! All of my friends are out of town and for the first time in a long time, I'm in B'ham for the weekend with no one..not even my puppy dog :(
That being said..
I'm afraid you wouldn't know the meaning of the word "sirens" unless you grew up in the Mayer home.
Sirens=Get to closet as quickly as possible...and you better not forget your shoes!
To say that Meridian always has bad weather is an understatement.
We moved to our current home in Meridian when I was in the fourth grade. That spring, a tornado hit our street(of course my room being the closest to the street) in the middle of the night. Needless to say, all that I recall from that fateful night was screaming so loud that I not only woke everyone in the house up, but I also woke myself up. For those of you who do not know, I have a tendency to scream in my sleep! That being said, we hustled and bustled to the closet, but everything was gone by the time we made it there. Apparently, I was screaming, "It's a train, it's a train!" and I was screaming this so loud that I woke my parents up. All that anyone knew at the time was that the weather was terrible. The next morning we awoke to find that the "train" was actually a tornado that did some damage to our neighborhood.
Needless to say, from that moment on "the sirens" took on a whole new meaning!
Anytime a "siren" (tornado siren, that is) is set off, the Mayer family hustles to the closet, b/c tornadoes follow their same path (for those of you who are unaware!)
But rules for the closet:
1. You must bring shoes (or you will be sent back out to find them!)
Who knows why?! My mom always said that if there was any "damage" that we might need them, or to run of course you know!!
2. You must have a flashlight.
3. You must have a cell phone.
Our guest bedroom closet is our "weather" closet, and it comes equipped with one flashlight, a radio, lots of blankets, and lots of pillows. It is also capable of being made into a pallete for those late-night closet runs too, of course!
So, my post is dedicated to Riley, my cousin, for this reason:
Riles, and for that matter any member of the Von family, had never experienced "the sirens" until one of their more recent visits to Meridian. A few years ago, it was pretty bad weather outside and all of a sudden out of nowhere...you guessed it, the sirens went off!! I made them turn off the television, verify that we actually heard them..and then the "siren" drill began! And the whole Von family acted clueless!! I was like, "Hello, what are you doing?! Get on the move...to the closet!!!" They had no idea what was going on, they didn't know what the sirens meant, they had never heard them, and oh my gosh getting in the closet?! Haha, they got quite a kick out of that one..but guess what?! Off to the closet they went..shoes and all!!
And they've never let us forget that night!!
But they'll know next time a tornado rips through Little Rock..they will be prepared if ever they find themselves hearing the sirens!
I'm afraid we're all in for a long night...at least I am!

One Amazing Weekend..

Things have been extravagantly busy around here lately! I feel as if I haven't had time to do anything! Last Thursday, I had a Tri Delt Alumnae meeting and headed to Meridian to drop Sophie off. I headed to Starkville on Friday for Super Bulldog Weekend, and let me tell you it was a super weekend! My friends and I went out on Friday night, went to the Cotton District Art's Festival on Saturday, and went out again Saturday night. I headed back to Meridian on Sunday to eat lunch with my family for my birthday and headed back to B'ham last night! To say that I've been on the road a lot lately is quite an understatement! This weekend was absolutely nothing short of amazing! All of my friends were in town and it was soo good getting to see all of them! I have such wonderful friends and family, and I cannot thank you all enough for making my birthday so special! Love you all!

Well, we have one burning bush..

A lot has happened since I have moved.
And yes my friends, you read correctly, we have a burning bush.
It is approximately 12:00 a.m. and I am watching a fire truck put out a burning bush in an apartment building right over from ours.
My apartment officially smells like a forest fire.
Brand new apartment, really big rat, and now a burning bush...I don't want to fathom what is to come..

Somedays..

Somedays, this sweet little girl..

..makes me want to do this..
Any takers? She's super sweet...on occassion :)

Lately..

This sweet little girl has been keeping me busy!
Her new favorite place to be is in front of our door!
She will sit and look outside for hours!
And she's got quite the talent..walking around on two legs isn't easy, you know!
And of course she likes to nap..
She has recently become obsessed with watching t.v...
And some things just never change..

..she still hates bath time!
But her all time favorite part of the day..
..is going for a walk in the park!
And then, back to sleep! Tough life, huh?
It seems as if things have been super busy lately, but so much fun!
You know that you're getting old...
..when the Master's becomes halway entertaining to watch!
..Or maybe I was just that bored?!
But congrats to Phil either way!
Who would have ever thought that golf is fun to watch?
I was out and about today, and found myself in a hurry to get home to see who won!
It's the little things in life..
On another note, the city has been extravagantly fun lately! Wednesday night I went to a Young Professionals get together, I attended Thirsty Thursday at the Baron's game with a few friends Thursday night, layed out Friday and Saturday, and hit the town both nights with fun friends! My weekend concluded with church this morning and I cleaned all afternoon! Life has been so fun lately, and I've got another busy week ahead!
I've got a Tri-Delt Alumni early Cinco-de-Mayo party on Thursday and I'm off to Starkville for Super Bulldog Weekend on Friday!! Soo excited!
Hope you all have a wonderful week :)

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter!!
I hope that you all had a fabulous Easter weekend!
I spent Thursday in Tuscaloosa, and the weekend in Meridian. Last night, I went to a crawfish boil at a friends and today we had both my mom and dad's families over for lunch (and my mom's birthday). I headed back to B'ham tonight with my sweet little Sophie. She was much better than expected, on our journey back that is! Her last (long) car ride was over six months ago. Today, I put her in her carrier (in which she absolutely despises) and she only yapped(okay it's more of a very high pitch shriek) for about 15 min. She has been super sweet all day with the exception of her being extremely clingy. Any advice?
She is normally very good at adjusting to new places, but this time she hasn't. I left to run a few errands tonight (a few hours after we got home) and I ended up having to take her with me; she just wouldn't stop whining when I left. Tonight I watched a movie and she snuggled right up beside me through the whole thing, and she is currently snuggled right up next to me in the bed. She will not sleep in her own bed, in which is on the floor right beside me.
In all honesty, I'm extremely allergic to her and all of her fur, but I just ignore that, take something for it, and go on about my day (b/c I love her of course!). But I do have a white down comforter, and I just really don't care for all of her black hair on it, not to mention that sleeping in the bed has never really gone over well for the two of us in the past. Any suggestions?
I've got a meeting at work in the morning, I'm crossing my fingers she has "adapted" by then! If not, I'm in for it..I just can't take all of her whimpering!
Hope you all have a wonderful work week :)
